Welcome to the workshop of Antonio Yesa , artist and sculptor based in the province of Malaga, Spain. Here you can see and enjoy sculptures and designs both large and small, ranging from the largest works which are landmarks on the map of several towns and cities in Spain and elsewhere in Europe, to smaller works in private homes and in collections such as La Caixa Foundation and Malaga’s Contemporary Arts Centre.
Antonio Yesa started his career in the world of sculpture in 1987 after a period when he studied art forms and exhibited drawings and paintings. His early sculptures were small in scale, very distinctive in style, spacious and full of light, made of light and flexible materials such as brass, tin and copper.
During the ensuing years his work focused on the use of new materials, searching for the form that would best express his ideas. Yesa’s sculptures began to exhibit greater mass and more rounded shapes, closer to his concept of space, and to use stronger materials such as iron and stainless steel.
With these new materials came new challenges needing new forms of expression, with the result that his sculptures became larger and heavier. His most recent work in the city of Malaga, Elíptica, measures ten metres high and weighs 6000 kilos.
Antonio Yesa continues to work in different materials and in different scales, making his sculptures accessible to the general public both through private ownership and public display and exhibition.
Antonio Yesa lives in Benalmadena in the province of Malaga and has his studio and workshop in the nearby town of Alhaurín de la Torre. Among his family are other talented artists and designers; a daughter works as a ceramic artist, and a sister is a graphic artist specializing in engraving.
